Four rooms. Simple comforts. Just steps from town or beach.

About The Raku House

The Raku House Inn is a collection of four lodgings within a Craftsman-style bungalow a short stroll from the center of the historic village. Ideally suited for our guests who wish to be conveniently located, the Inn offers clean and airy rooms and a freshly baked organic continental breakfast delivered to your door each morning. Its simplicity and charm are appropriate to a small village known as an art colony and cultural center, with festivals devoted to music, food, and wine year-round, along with the soul-soothing presence of the Pacific Ocean.

The four separate rooms and suites, all with private bathrooms, are most often rented separately. Rented entirely, however, the Raku House Inn provides more privacy than a vacation home for groups or families traveling together.

For artists, writers, and professionals seeking a pleasant place to focus, Raku House offers a retreat in a village where everything is accessible by foot. Everything local is available by simply opening the windows or stepping outside; Pacific Ocean breezes, sandy beach (350 footsteps away), hardy surfers, craft artisans, cozy restaurants serving beautiful food, theater, shops, culture, and counter culture.

The Raku House Inn is associated with the Alegria Oceanfront Inn & Cottages just across the street. Guests of the Raku House Inn are welcome at Alegria Inn’s lobby and sitting room, the ocean view benches in the seaside garden, and trail to the beach.

  • Closest shop - across the street (Moore’s Used Books)
  • Closest gallery - two blocks west on Main Street (Highlight Gallery)
  • Closest restaurant - one block north on Evergreen Street (Café Beaujolais)
  • Beach - 200 footsteps down the bluff on our beach trail. The trail around the Headlands State Park begins at the beach or use the trailhead three doors west of us.
  • GPS coordinates: N 39 18.312', W 123 47.712', Elevation 54'

The garden at Raku is an eclectic mix of trees and perennials, with something interesting to see throughout the year. The garden was begun by local gardener Anita McElroy who was described as having a green thumb up to the elbow! Now it is lovingly maintained and improved by local expert gardener, Dan Salmond. If you see Dan in the garden, feel free to quiz him!

Breakfast at The Raku House

A light continental breakfast is brought to your room in a basket every morning around 8:30 am. A freshly baked scone, muffin, or coffee cake is accompanied by a chilled fruit juice and a choice of Thanksgiving Organic Coffee (roasted locally in Fort Bragg), or a selection of Numi Organic teas. At The Raku House, we are committed to supporting sustainable agriculture: breakfast is made with organic ingredients whenever possible.
